4-Month Old Baby Milestones: A Twin Mom’s Perspective
Hello Mummy. When my twins turned four months old, I realised just how different two babies born on the same day can be. This month was full of smiles, movement, exhaustion, and deep love. If you’re parenting one baby or twins, month four can feel exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Here’s what the 4-month-old baby stage looked like for us, shared week by week, from a twin mom’s heart.

Week 13: Stronger Heads, Stronger Personalities
At the start of month four, both my twins were holding their heads up better during tummy time but in completely different ways. One was calm and observant, while the other was impatient and ready to move. This was when I truly understood that milestones don’t look the same, even with twins.
Feeding was already challenging. One baby fed quickly and settled easily. The other needed more time, more burping, and more comfort. Feeding two babies alone felt like a juggling act, but I reminded myself often that doing my best was enough.
Week 14: Rolling, Reaching, and Real Tiredness
This week brought more movement. One twin began rolling early, while the other preferred reaching for toys and watching the world around them. I learned to celebrate each baby’s progress without comparing.
Feeding two babies at once was still difficult. There were moments when one finished feeding just as the other started crying. It was exhausting, but I learned that responding with love mattered more than getting everything “right.”
Week 15: More Smiles, More Sounds
By week fifteen, my twins were more social. There was more smiling, laughing, and baby talk. Seeing them smile at each other made the long days feel lighter.
Sleep was still unpredictable, and feeding schedules didn’t always match. I learned that routines don’t need to be perfect. They just need to support everyone through the day.

Week 16: Growing Strength and Confidence
By the end of month four, both babies showed better body control. They pushed up during tummy time, kicked with excitement, and supported some weight when held upright.
Feeding was still hard, but I felt stronger. I understood their cues better. I learned it was okay if one baby waited briefly. Confidence made the difference, not perfection.
Feeding a 4-Month-Old Baby (or Two)
At four months old, babies should still have breast milk or formula only. Feeding every 3–4 hours is normal. With twins, feeding can feel constant. Some feeds are calm; others feel rushed and messy. Both are normal.
If you are feeding two babies with very different needs, please remember: you are not failing you are adapting.
How I Supported My Twins’ Development
- Short daily tummy time sessions
- Talking, singing, and responding to cues
- Accepting help when offered
- Letting go of comparison
- Giving myself grace
I consciously let go of comparing my twins to each other or to other babies, choosing instead to celebrate their individual progress. Most importantly, I created a loving and calm environment during feeding and playtime, and on the hardest days, I reminded myself that showing up with love was more than enough.
Loving Reminder for Parents
Every baby grows at their own pace. Even twins follow different paths. Month four taught me patience, resilience, and unconditional love. If this season feels hard, know this: you are not alone, and you are doing an amazing job.
